It's the weekend and plans are being made with friends, but what is there to do in Green Bay besides the usual sitting around or heading to the bars for a night of social drinking? Why not check out the popular new action-packed, romantic sci-fi film "Avatar"? This film takes place in the future. A paraplegic ex-marine named Jake embarks on a mission which will change his life forever. After his brother is killed, Jake, played by Sam Worthington, is brought to planet Pandora on a mission. Pandora is inhabited by a humanoid race referred to as the Na'vi. Once on Pandora, Jake must gain the respect of the Na'vi as he learns their language and cultural behaviors in order to become one of them. The reason for this is to bridge the gap between the Na'vi and the humans, bringing peace between the two differing races. Chaos soon ensues between the research group, which is headed by Grace, played by Sigourney Weaver, who are closing the distance between the Na'vi and the humans while the corporate officials are aiming to drive the Na'vi out of their homeland in order to obtain valuable materials present throughout Pandora. Promised to have surgery to fix his legs, Jake agrees with the corporate officials to gain information on the Na'vi and relay it back as well as gain the trust of the Na'vi but soon he has a change of heart towards the Na'vi race. Then it is up to him and Grace's research group to save the Na'vi race from being driven from their homeland before it is too late. "Avatar" is a movie to see with family and friends and is definitely a must see in the theater. Being offered in 3D, the effects of this movie are outstanding. The planet Pandora is creatively portrayed containing a wide variety of colors and creatures. Director James Cameron depicted the Na'vi race with a unique look to the movie as well. The ingeniously artistic film took Cameron 14 years to perfect before releasing it. The time and hard work he put into it is evident. This movie is filled with tons of action which is present throughout the entire movie with epic fight scenes and a huge war between the Na'vi and the corporate officials who are trying to obtain the Na'vis homeland towards the end of the movie. "Avatar" has received many great reviews and has been a box office hit, raking in approximately $77 hundred thousand in its first week of being released. Worldwide "Avatar" has made more than $1 billion. This movie is rated PG-13 with a running time of two hours and 40 minutes. Though this may seem like a lengthy film, it's far from boring. The movie contains so much action it will keep anyone interested from beginning to end. Any sci-fi lover will surely adore this film. According to Chicago Sun-Times, "Once again, [Cameron] has silenced the doubters by simply delivering an extraordinary film." Los Angeles Times said, "'Avatar's' shock and awe demand to be seen. You've never experienced anything like it, and neither has anyone else." People of all ages will enjoy this film and without a doubt recommend it to family and friends. It is absolutely worth the $9 to see in 2D and/or the $12 to see in 3D.
