The popular fast food chain, Sonic, will open in Green Bay, Nov. 2. In the East Town Mall parking lot, along East Mason Street, the former Storheim's Custard has been given a new identity. The building has been renovated to accommodate the 1950s drive-in diner atmosphere that is a trademark of Sonic Drive-Ins. Unlike Gilly's Custard, another drive-in on Green Bay's west side, Sonic does not feature indoor dining. The Oklahoma-based corporation owns more than 3,500 restaurants, all of which serve the same American roadside cuisine, including burgers, dogs, onion rings and deep fried pickle slices. Look for a Fourth Estate review of Sonic in an upcoming issue.
