On an uncharacteristically warm September night, the Resch Center had an air of Hell freezing over one more time. The Eagles, one of rock and roll's most popular and influential bands, made a stop in Green Bay on the Long Road Out of Eden Tour Sept. 29. Playing in front of a near sellout crowd - more than 10,000 fans - The Eagles brought out every fan favorite and mixed in a bit of their new material in their two-part, three-hour performance. They weren't alone, performing on a huge stage complete with two projection screens which nearly touched the Resch Center ceiling. The band began the night with "How Long," one of many songs from the 2007 album "Long Road Out of Eden" played during the set. "Busy Being Fabulous," the second song of the night, is the second single released off the band's latest album and is very reminiscent of a classic Eagles tune. After playing the pair of new songs from the new album, the band finally greeted the crowd, getting a good laugh from the Resch Center crowd. Guitarist and vocalist Glenn Frey greeted the crowd by thanking them for coming out in support of the Long Road Out of Eden Tour, but quickly corrected himself. "This is the Eagles Assisted Living Tour and we're The Eagles, the band that wouldn't die," Frey said. The near-capacity crowd responded with a loud roar, which carried all the way into the band's next single of the concert. After a couple more songs, the stage fell under black before a red glow shone upon the band's trumpet player. A long trumpet solo followed, including a seemingly never-ending held note which got the crowd on their feet once more. As the trumpet faded away, the red glow engulfed the rest of the band as the signature guitar intro of "Hotel California" was greeted by the loudest crowd roar of the night. A slew of Eagles classics followed, including "Peaceful Easy Feeling," "I Can't Tell You Why," and "Witchy Woman." Three more Eagles classics - "Boys of Summer," "In the City," and "The Long Run" - wrapped up the 75-minute section of the set. After a brief intermission, the band returned to the stage to take part in an acoustic performance which features many songs from the new album. The pace of the concert reached an evening high after the acoustic set. Guitarist Joe Walsh showed off his skills on "Walk Away" and a number of songs that followed. During the band introduction segment, Walsh disappeared from sight before being the final person on stage named. The guitar legend came from behind the drum kit donning a cheesehead fit with a camera. Walsh then instructed the crowd to "do whatever you want, just do something" when he focused his camera on them during the performance of "Life's Been Good." Walsh altered the lyrics for the Green Bay crowd, singing "I have a limo, I ride in the back, I come to Green Bay to cheer for the Pack," much to the delight of the pro-Green Bay Packers crowd. With the clock pushing 11 p.m., the band wrapped up their set with "Dirty Laundry," "Heartache Tonight" and "Life in the Fast Lane." The lights were not raised once the band left the stage, surely indicative of an encore. The crowd was not disappointed, as The Eagles retook the stage for a two-song encore. "Take It Easy" got the crowd riled up before the lights once again went all black for lead vocalist Don Henley's intro to "Desperado," the final song of the night. After nearly 40 years, numerous squabbles and a 15-year break, The Eagles seemed to have not lost a step, bringing a high-energy show despite being in their 50's.
