Fans of the popular boy band One Direction got a glimpse into the group’s personal life in the music video, “Story of My Life.”

The track is the second single off the band’s new album, “Midnight Memories,” set to be released later this month.

The video opens with the five boys working in a dark room to develop pictures of them when they were younger. Soon, they are surrounded by hundreds of family photos reminding them how drastically their lives have changed.

The camera zooms in on a photo of young Zayn Malik and his little sister. The picture then transforms to the present-day Maliks in the same pose. Although his sister is frozen, Zayn looks around the room to reflect on his memories.

Next, Niall Horan is seen as a toddler playing the violin with his older brother. Again, they transform into the present-day Horans, and Niall reminisces about the toys he played with at that time in his life.

Then, we see Liam Payne with his sisters and parents years ago, all dressed formally. The family ages in just a few seconds, and Liam wanders around the room stopping to admire himself in the mirror and look at another old photo of himself.

Next up, a toddler version of Harry Styles sits smiling next to his mother on the couch. Once they age, a bathrobe-wearing Styles gazes admiringly at his mom.

The video plays with fans’ heartstrings in the next flashback. A young Louis Tomlinson is seen sitting in front of his grandparents and great-grandparents. Once Louis and his grandparents age, the image of the two great-grandparents remains the same, and then disappears completely. Tomlinson looks sadly where his two missing family members were sitting and appears to reflect on his time with them.

Toward the end of “Story of My Life,” all the family members in the pictures unfreeze and have a laugh with their respective band members.

Leaving out the pool parties and running on the beach, this video is the most personal and heartfelt video the boy band has done. Their overall sound has changed, as well, opting for a more Mumford and Sons-type sound on this track, which works especially well in this video.

Within two days, “Story of My Life” racked up millions of views. The video on Vevo.com had more than 11 million views, and YouTube had a staggering 15.2 million. However, it didn’t break the record for most views in 24 hours, currently held by Miley Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball” video.

The release of the video is the start of a busy month for the international boy band, having just wrapped up a nine month worldwide tour Nov. 3 and gearing up for the release of their third studio album, “Midnight Memories,” Nov. 25.

The boys are also doing a seven -hour Livestream for fans Nov. 23 and are dubbing the day “1D Day.” This day will include celebrity guests, special features and an opportunity for viewers to share their content ideas with the group.
