After nine long years, fans of CBS’s hit show “How I Met Your Mother” were prepared to finally meet Ted’s (Josh Radnor, “Not Another Teen Movie,” 2001) wife and mother of his children, for whom the show is named.

The big reveal came in the series finale on March 31, and fans couldn’t have been more disappointed.

Spoilers ahead!

After building up to that moment for nine years, the story of meeting his wife, Tracy (Cristin Milioti, “The Wolf of Wall Street,” 2013), and their relationship should have lasted more than one episode. What was even more frustrating was finding out the two had only been married for 10 years before Tracy died and that Ted first sat his kids down to tell them their story six years after her death.

It got even worse once the kids urged Ted to go after Robin (Cobie Smulders, “The Avengers,” 2012) because it was obvious they liked each other. Fans felt cheated after hearing Ted talk about his wife for nine years only to only to spin full circle and have Ted end up with Robin.

Nearly 13 million viewers tuned in to see the disappointing finale, easily topping the charts with the coveted demographic of ages 18-49.

In fact, by the end of the episode, #HIMYMFinale was trending worldwide on Twitter. But all that attention seemed pretty unearned.

It wasn’t the happy finale fans were hoping for, and they definitely deserved better.
